Lynn Meersman Women in Construction Spotlight

It seems that every step of Lynn Meersman’s career has prepared her for the next challenge.  With a personal belief that “opportunity only knocks once,” she said yes to everything that presented itself to her. That attitude has earned her the Vice President of Estimating position for Aldridge Electric.

As a lifelong learner, Lynn had already graduated with a degree in finance from ISU and worked as a money manager before joining the Local 134 apprenticeship program.  Not knowing what to expect with this career change, what she uncovered in her apprenticeship was lifelong camaraderie with the guys, a love for working with her hands, and unique management skills.  All of which would contribute to her ongoing success.   In the evenings, Lynn continued her education and graduated with an MBA the same year she finished her apprenticeship. The anomaly that she was, it wasn’t long before someone noticed her.  Mike Hughes, the owner of Huen Electric, asked to meet with Lynn and offered her the opportunity to come in the office, where he would personally mentor her.  “He taught me everything I know. First, it was estimating.  When I was ready, he then taught me how to run projects.”  The rest, shall we say, is history. Eventually, she found her way to Aldridge Electric, where she continues to say yes to new challenges and opportunities.

“The best career moves are the ones that scare you”
