Grainne Flaherty started in the apprentice program at the age of 25. She admits that prior to joining the local, she was stumbling a bit into adulthood. Becoming an electrician became the first thing in her life that gave her passion.
“When you find the thing in your life that makes you feel alive for the first time, you work your tail off to make sure it doesn’t fall apart.”
Grainne bent pipe on the weekends, went to night school to get her degree, and was sure to carry as much pipe on her shoulder as the other guys in the field. Fast forward to today, her uncompromising work ethic has gotten her promoted to a Senior Project Manager for Ashburn Electric, where she works exclusively on the Northwestern University account. As she describes her new role in the industry, “I’m still troubleshooting. I am still solving problems. Only now, my back don’t hurt.”
“I didn’t get there by wishing for it or hoping for it, but by WORKING for it.” Estee Lauder
